MDRRMCand 9 Midsayap villages remain underwater, no evacuation

MIDSAYAP,
North Cotabato (Sept. 5/NDBC) – At least nine villages here remained under
water following four days to moderate to heavy downpour, officials said today.

Victor Beduya,
Midsayap Municipal Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) focal person,
said more villages which were also flooded are yet to be validated.

Interviewed by
DXMS Radyo Bida, Beduya identified the flooded villages as Kadigasan, Lumupog,
Damatulan, Ulandang, Kudarangan, Macasendeg, Tumbras, Sambolawan, Central and Upper
Labas, villages situated in the borders of Midsayap and Datu Piang.

These are
perennial flooded communities,” Beduya said, adding that more than 50 percent
of the total number of houses remained flooded.

Describing how
difficult reaching out the affected families, Beduya saidand We need to use
banca to reach these villages,”

They did not
evacuate but stayed home. We told them
to inform us should they wish to evacuate,” he said, adding the village of Ulandang,
was 100 percent flooded.

He said the Midsayap
local government unit is set to distribute relief goods today.

Beduya also
said during validation they found out water hyacinth clogged under the Ulandang
bridge that connects Midsayap and Datu Piang.

Public works
engineers are clearing the bridge vicinity, he said. (NSBC)
