Makilala highway mishap claims 2 lives
MAKILALA, Nortth Cotabato -- A militiaman and a rubber laborer were killed in two separate highway accident in one portion of the Cotabato-Davao highway Monday in Makilala, North Cotabato, apolice traffic officer said. Nilo Lauda Sr, a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit and resident of Barangay Cabilao, Makilala, North Cotabato, died when his motorbike collided head on with a Toyota D4D passenger van at 10 a.m.in Sitio Caimito, Barangay Kisante, Makilala town Makilala Traffic Investigator PO2 Mindel Calinga said Lauda who was driving a Honda motorbike attempted to overtake a passenger van but collided on an approaching van.Since Lauda wear no crash helmet, he sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot.The Toyota D4D van driver, Alfredo Eltagonde, 44 of Digos City, surrendered to Makilala PNP.An hour later, another motorist, identified as Emmanuel Manzo, died when his motorbike crash on a concrete pavement after it hit a temporary road repair signage made of ordinary wood. Police said the signage has no reflector and was not the standard road signs used by public works on major highways.
