KIDAPAWAN CITY— A rice retailers association herehas assured the consuming publicthat itssafety is its utmost concern by selling puregrainsThe assurance was issuedthat synthetic and fake rice had been penetrated the Kidapawan City megamarket. Carmelito Bacus, Grains Retailer Confederation (GRECON) president, immediately conduct monitoring to its entire member and warned them to be vigilant of alleged fake rice in order not to compromise the health of consumers. Bacus issued an order following the reports that fake rice has already reached the Davao City market. A woman in Davao City complained that the rice she bought, after cooking, has turned like aStyrofoam. We assure our customers and clientsthat our grains remain pure and no fake rice,” Bacus said. Bacus added every time they procure rice from suppliers they get assurance of the supplies purity. He said they personally know the suppliers from Kabacan, North Cotabato and Bukidnon and supplying them with fake ones would destroy the trust created for quiet sometime. Bacus urged rice consumers to immediately report any unusual components in the supply they buy from Kidapawan City market. Disciplinary action andpenaltiesawait rice retailers selling fake rice or supplies harmful to consumers, he said.Meanwhile, Bacus denied claims by theNational Food Authority (NFA) that prices of commercial rice have been cut by as much as P10 per 50 kilogram. In fact, Bacus said, the price of all variety ofcommercial rice had gone up P20 per sack which was expected after the rice producers suffered during the lean months and dry spell early this year. He said the cheapest sack of commercial rice in Kidapawan Citycosts P2,040 to P2,150 per sack. He added commercial rice rose by P2 per kilo in the past few days. Bacus explained that the traders have to raise the price to at least earn reasonable profits.
