Hypertension leading cause of death in Mlang
MLANG, North Cotabato -The municipal health office of Mlang in North Cotabato has intensified its campaign for healthy living after it found out that hypertension continuous to be the leading cause of death this year and in the last 5 years. Dr. Glecerio Sotea, Mlang municipal health chief, said hypertension cases became his priority after deaths due to hypertension become rampant in town. Sotea said an average of 60 to 80 people died due to hypertension yearly which he attributed to incorrect healthy lifestyles. Sotea, however, could not remember the youngest victim but claimed most of the fatalities are in their mid-40s. As far as my memory is concern, close to 400 people here in Mlang, perished due to said ailment in the last 5 years,” Sotea said, adding that those who died due to hypertension have ignored signs of the disease. andltpandgt Most of them have suffered mild strokes already before seeking medical attention,” Sotea said. To address these problems, the Local Government Unit (LGU) through the health office launched massive campaign in the villages regarding the practice of healthy lifestyle. Sotea said the program is urging elders in 37 villages to hold morning exercises and to promote healthy lifestyle by encouraging the constituents to eat according to proper diets. At present at least 6 villages are now adopting the program, Sotea said. Sotea appealed to residents in their 40’s to regularly monitor blood pressures to determine if they already bordering hypertension or already suffering high blood pressure. But the best thing to do is to have regular exercises and eating good diets to prevent hypertension in the future,” Sotea added.
