The head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines encouraged the faithful to make the most of Holy Week so they would grow closer to God as Easter approaches. As the Church comes to the depths of Lent, CBCP President and Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles hopes that the week provides the people more time to meditate on the deeper things of God. So, the real challenge and opportunity in these days of Lent is to return to the Lord and trust him to renew us, Valles said.As Lent is about to end, the archbishop also hoped that spiritual practices of prayer, almsgiving and fasting helped the faithful return to the Lord. In short, Lent makes us realize how certainly we would return to dust, as we were reminded on Ash Wednesday, if we do not return to the Lord, Valles added. My dear brothers and sisters, Lent is about to end, but there is still ample time to bring ourselves closer to the Lord, he also said.
