Girl dies of measles? DOH Koronadal probes
KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 13/NDBC) - Health Officials in South Cotabato are still investigating the
case of a 9-year-old girl who died of suspected measles, a health official said
Monday.
The
fatality who hails from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, died on September 12 because
of pneumonia, one of the complications of measles.
But Cecil
Lorenzo, Provincial Epediomology Surviellance Unit (PESU) chief, said the case
is still being verified.
We will
check on it because we want to confirm if the child really succumbed to measles,”
Lorenzo told DXOM-Koronadal.
Jorgen
Kartel was admitted at the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City
days after she experienced fever, cough, and skin rashes, common symptoms among
measles patients.
To avoid
similar case, Lorenzo appealed to the parents to avail of the on-going massive
measles and oral polio vaccination.
She said
that parents can bring their children for vaccination to nearest health center
or any health facility. (NDBC)
