DILG reminds barangay govt on assembly day
KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 11/NDBC) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in
South Cotabato has reminded village officials of a memorandum circular
synchronizing the conduct of barangay assembly on the last Saturday of
September.
Lailyn Ortiz,
South Cotabato provincial interior and local government officer, made the
announcement during a news conference.
She said
memorandum was pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 260 which declares
that barangays must observe the conduct of simultaneous assembly day every last
Saturday of March and last Saturday of September.
Ortiz said she
was optimistic all village officials in the province will abide by the
memorandum.
South Cotabato
has 199 barangays in 10 municipalities.
She also added
if any barangay official violates Proclamation No. 260, her office is
determined to impose sanctions for their negligence.
She said barangays
must include in the assembly the delivery of the State of Barangay Address
(SOBA) discussion of compliance to DILG memorandum Circular No. 2014-81
regarding the posting of barangay budget, statement of income and expenditures
and other barangay financial transactions, and annual proclamation plan.
Ortiz said among
the activities are the discussion of issues or concerns affecting the village such
as disaster preparedness, solid waste management, peace and order situation, among
others. (NDBC)
