GEN. SANTOS CITY – About 1,190 households will soon enjoy greater economic opportunities as the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR-Sarangani) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the farm to market roads (FMR) in Maitum, Sarangani Province.

The DAR-Italian Assistance to Agrarian Reform Communities Development Support Program  (IARCDSP) funded the project in partnership with the local government unit of Maitum, Sarangani.

The P23.8 million worth of projects for the rehabilitation and improvement of TIMAWA-RAMIREZ road in Barangay Mabay and improvement and concreting of MALIGAYA-CAMBUHAN FMR in Barangay Sison will benefit 300 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and 638 Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

In his speech, Felix C. Frias, Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II, said that this project was awarded to the beneficiaries “because it is what the farming communities really need especially in transporting goods and crops.”

“A reduced transport cost of P20/sack from P40/sack will add more to their income,” Frias said.

Addressing the farmers, Frias said: ”We, from the DAR and IARCDSP together with the municipal officials hope that you will take care of these projects and will continue to work hand-in-hand to extend support to our ARBs.”

Maitum Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit lauded DAR officials as he accepted the DAR-IARCDSP projects.  He appealed to his people to take care of the project so that the younger generations will also benefit from it.
