Cotabato City lawmaker eyes new physical fitness site for Cotabatenios

COTABATO CITY - City Councilor Mohammad Ali Bruce Matabalao has filed a proposed ordinancedesignating portions of the Sinsuat Avenue as physical fitness area for joggers, health enthusiasts and to promote better health for Cotabatenios.Matabalao, a sports enthusiast, file the proposed ordinance on Monday. It is entitled An ordinance designating 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays as physical fitness hours and authorizing the closure of a portion of Sinsuat Avenue, particularly from corner Quezon Avenue to corner Sousa Street. Once approved, Matabalao's bill will be called Physical Fitness Ordinance of Cotabato City. As alternate routes during fitness hours, Matabalao said motorists can useRamon H. Rabago Sr. Street, Sousa Street, and General Luna Street.It will be implemented by local officials of Barangays of Rosary Heights 1, 2, 4, 5and 12 as well as the Liga ng mga Barangay. These officials will ensure orderly flow of traffic and security.Matabalao believed that the senior citizens can lead the pack, thus his proposed ordinance, once approved, are urged to actively participate. In recognition of the active participation of the Senior Citizens in socio-civic activities and to provide them an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, the Federation of Senior Citizens is hereby authorized to organize physical fitness activities like hataw’, zumba” and the like.A media person turned politician,Matabalaohas lauded andrecognized the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government for allowing early morning joggers to use the compoundas center for physical fitness in Cotabato City.
