KORONADAL CITY - Cartoons are not just for kids anymore.

The South Cotabato Provincial government understands that all too well by showcasing animated cartoon characters in this year’s “Thematic Lights Competition.”

Iconic cartoon characters like SpongeBob, Mickey Mouse, Alice in Wonderland, Hello Kitty, and Tinker Bell went to the Christmas village at the provincial capitol.

This coincides with an “Animated Christmas” theme of the province’s December Fest 2019 that kicked off with a variety show at the provincial capitol compound here on Monday.

Emmanuel Jumilla, South Cotabato Assistant Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, said the thematic lights competition participated by various government agencies and private sectors is one of the three main events in the December Fest 2019.

“Their rationale in joining the competition is not to win the prize but participation and cooperation in the province,” Jumilla said.

Part of the Christmas celebration is the nightly performances of the sponsoring organizations that will also be giving prizes to lucky audiences through a raffle draw.

“There are combination of songs and dances to give joy to the public this holiday season,” Jumilla said.

Top accommodate more people, Jumilla said the provincial government moved the nightly presentation to the covered court instead of the traditional site at Protect center.

Jumilla said, local bands from the province will entertain the public with their live music every night at the parking area of the South Cotabato Gym where drinks and beverages will also be served.

”The provincial government spent P600,000 for its Christmas celebration, P225,000 of the said amount went to the prizes,” Jumilla said.

The celebration will culminate on December 20 with the awarding of winners for the Thematic Competition. (RO)
