Bishopand No NPA nun, priest in Diocese of Marbel
KORONADAL CITY -- Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez of the Diocese of Marbel has denied there were priests and nuns in the diocese who are sympathizers or supporters of the New Peoples Army as claimed by South CotabatoReacting to South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes' claim that some priests and nuns have been providing assistance to communist movement in some remote villages of the province.She said some nuns have established schools where pupils from remote barangays were taught how to fight the government.The bishop said the Church in Diocese of Marbelrepresented by religious ministers like priests and nuns are siding with the oppressed and the marginalized whatever their affiliation or groups in the fight against injustices and inequality.He admitted though that some priests and nuns in other areasjoined the communist movement because of the existing corruption, injustices and inequality in the country.He assured no active religious members of Diocese of Marbel who are NPA members, as claimed by Fuentes.
