5.1 quake hit Tawi-Tawi
COTABATO CITY
(Sept. 9/NDBC) –- A mildearthquake hit Tawi-Tawi islands Tuesday morning,Radio Station DXGD-AM and volcanologistsreported today.In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said the mild quake was recorded at 8:26 a.m. with theepicenter 51 kilometers south of South Ubian town in Tawi-Tawi.The earthquake was felt at Intensity 3 in Bongao, capital of Tawi-Tawi.Phivolcs in its websitedescribed the tremor as weak and tectonic in origina.but still felt at Intensity 1 in Zamboanga City.Quoting report from reporters based in Ubian town, DXGD-AMsaid the quake lasted for about 10 seconds.No casualty was reported and Phivolcs said aftershock was unlikely.South Ubian town is one of the mission areas of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Father Rey Roda, director of Notre Dame of Tabawan, was killed in the village of Tabawan which was part ofSouth Ubian municipality. (NDBC)
