Merchant arrested for assault rifle possession

LANAO DEL SUR - The police detained a resident of Malabang town in this province from whose car policemen in a roadside checkpoint found an assault rifle Thursday.

Col. Jibin Bongcayao, Lanao del Sur police director, said Alvinzer Matling Alauya is now in the custody of the Malabang Police Station, to be prosecuted for possession of an unlicensed assault rifle.

PRO-12 members cautioned against partisan activities

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The leadership of the Police Regional Office-12 warned on Thursday members of the force against engaging in partisan activities of local executives.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of PRO-12, said Thursday the policy is in compliance with the instruction of Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos for Philippine National Police personnel to distance themselves from political activities.

“There is no problem with us adhering to that directive. We shall obey,” Tagum said.

Municipal election officer in Basilan shot dead

COTABATO CITY - Gunmen shot dead in a daring attack Tuesday the election officer of the politically-hostile Al-Barka town in Basilan.

Initial reports reaching the headquarters of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in nearby Parang, Maguindanao said Ruayna Sayyadi died instantly from gunshot wounds.

2 dead, 2 hurt in General Santos ambush

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Ambushers on motorcycles shot dead two Moro men and wounded two others in a daring attack in Barangay Bawing here Sunday.

Victims Johnrey Samad Banto and Sari Aminola Kalamongi died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

In an initial statement Monday, the Tambler Police Station of the General Santos City Police Office said the duo’s companions, Uday Acad and Ressan Alawadi Uday, were badly wounded in the attack.

They are now confined in a hospital, according to the local police.

4 more Abu Sayyaf men surrender in Basilan

COTABATO CITY  - Four more members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group in Basilan surrendered over the weekend, the Bangsamoro regional police said Monday.

Brig. Gen. Arthur Cabalona of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region said the four men, whose real names were withheld pending relocation to safe areas, yielded through the joint intercession of the Army’s 18th Infantry Battalion, the Basilan provincial police and emissaries of local officials.

Fire hits 4th ID's ammo dump in Cagayan de Oro

COTABATO CITY --- A fire hit an ammunition and ordnance depot in the Army’s Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City midnight Monday, July 11, setting off explosions that triggered panic among residents.

Responding personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection and volunteer fire teams from different private groups managed to put off the fire before dawn Tuesday.

2 minors perished in Davao del Sur grenade blast

KIDAPAWAN CITY --- A seven-year-old child was mangled beyond recognition while his younger sibling was seriously hurt, later died in the hospital, Thursday when a grenade they were playing with went off.

The Malalag Municipal Police Station identified the victims as 7-year-old Christian Jay Gecale and his brother 5-year-old Kent Gaspar. 

In an initial statement Friday, the local police said the slain seven-year-old child and his five-year-old brother, Kent, saw the grenade in a grassy spot near their house in Barangay Rizal in Malalag, Davao del Sur and played with it.

3K marijuana plants uprooted, shabu peddler nabbed in Lanao del Sur

COTABATO CITY - A police team uprooted 3,000 marijuana shrubs in the upland Tugaya town in Lanao del Sur Tuesday.

Col. Jibin Bongcayao, director of the Lanao del Sur provincial police, said Wednesday their operation was premised on tips by villagers in Barangay Bago-a-Ingud in Tugaya about the propagation of marijuana by an armed group in the area.

Drug peddler, naaresto ng PNP sa Lanao del Sur

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao - HULI SA IKINASANG ANTI-DRUG operation ng Lanao del Sur PNP ang isang lalaking nagbebenta ng shabu sa bayan ng Tugaya.

Sinabi ni Lanao Sur police director Colonel Jibin Bongcayao na di na nakapalag si Hamsa Dilabayan matapos na siya ay arestuhin ng PNP at Army.

Nakuha sa kanya ang shabu na nagkakahalaga ng mahigit P13,000 at marijuana.

Siya ay nakatakdang kasuhan ngayong araw.

Entrepreneur in Zamboanga del Sur shot dead

COTABATO CITY - Investigators are assessing the possibility that extortionists were behind the murder in public of a businesswoman in Molave town in Zamboanga del Sur early this week.

In a statement Tuesday, the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police said the municipal police forces in the adjoining Molave, Mahayag and Tambulig towns are together trying to identify the killers of the 47-year-old Thea Cabahug Ballesta.

She owned a roadside chicken barbecue eatery in Barangay Makuguhon, Molave.
