2 dead, lawyer’s vehicle shot in North Cotabato gun attacks

PIKIT, North Cotabato ---Two vendors of smoked freshwater fishes were killed while a vehicle of a lawyer working for a Bangsamoro parliament member was damaged in separate gun attacks here in just two days.

The fatalities, Pepito Sobrepeña, 57, and his 26-year-old helper, Juner Alconera, died on the spot from bullet wounds.

The duo were attacked with pistols by motorcycle-riding suspects while in their roadside stall in the town proper here late Saturday.


Drug peddler falls in Pigcawayan, P360K worth of meth seized

Kinilala ni Pigcawayan town chief Major Carl Jayson Baynosa ang suspek na si Demy Mange Salvo, 58-year-old, na taga Banisilan, North Cotabato.

Sa panayam ng DXMS radyo bida kay Baynosa, sinabi nitong nadakip ang suspek matapos mapagbentahan nito ng shabu ang isang police undercover agent.


Abu Sayyaf, soldier perish in Sulu encounter 

COTABATO CITY --- An Army soldier and an Abu Sayyaf member were killed in a gunfight in Patikul town in Sulu Monday. 

The fatalities were identified as Army Pfc. Jay Clint Pasingan and Abu Sayyaf gunman Omar Yakhan, a follower of the long wanted terrorists Ellam Nasirin.

Pasingan and his companions were patrolling in Barangay Bangkal in Patikul town in Sulu when they were attacked by Abu Sayyaf terrorists, sparking a gunfight.

Two companions of Pasingan, Sgt. Michael Baguno at Pfc. Celestino Tanu, were both wounded in the ensuing encounter.


Zambo Sur town councilor nabbed for gun ban violation

COTABATO CITY --- An incumbent municipal councilor in Zamboanga del Sur landed in jail for carrying a gun outside of residence in total disregard of restrictions set by the Commission on Elections.

Jovert Dahunan, an incumbent of the municipal council in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur, was nabbed Monday night at a checkpoint by policemen enforcing Comelec’s ban on carrying of firearms without clearance from the commission.

He was immediately clamped down in a detention facility of the Kumalarang Municipal Police Station.


US Marines train Region 12 cops on rifle sniping

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- A team from the US Marine Corps is training a group of selected personnel of the Police Regional Office-12 on long-range sniper tactics and proficiency.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of PRO-12, said Wednesday the 15-day Advance Sniper Course for his subordinates is a joint program of the US Marine Corps and the Philippine National Police.

The training, which started this week, is being held inside the big compound here of PRO-12’s regional headquarters that has a rifle shooting range.


Trader of kitchen utensils, son, robbed, killed in Maguindanao

BARIRA, Maguindanao --- For having only P2,000 cash, robbers shot dead an ambulant trader of kitchen utensils and his son in an attack here Monday.

The Barira municipal police identified the fatalities as Richard Bigcas and son, Richie, who both died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

They were selling kitchen wares and other merchandise in a secluded area here when four gunmen approached them and, at gunpoint, asked for money in exchange for their safety.

The spouse of Bigcas, Lorna, witnessed the attack.


Datu Piang community watchmen’s outpost attacked

COTABATO CITY --- A villager was wounded when gunmen attacked an outpost of volunteer barangay watchmen in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao on Friday night.

The incident was preceded by last week’s bombing of a building near the house of Datu Piang Mayor Victor Samama using two 40 millimeter grenade projectiles fired from a distance.

The volunteer barangay security team traded shots with the gunmen who fired at them assault rifles.

A resident named Anwar Guimaludin was wounded in the ensuing crossfire, now confined in a hospital.


2 die, 1 hurt in Koronadal shootout

KORONADAL CITY - Dead on arrival sa ospital ang isang land owner matapos pagbabarilin sa kanila mismong lugar sa Purok Camia, Barangay New Pangasinan,Koronadal City pasado alas dos kahapon.

Kinilala ng Koronadal PNP na pinamumunuan ni Police Lt. Col. Joedy Lito Guisinga ang nasawing biktima na si Vicente Sumigcay, 38 anyos.

Patay din ang isa sa mga suspek na si Elves Castillo alias Boyet habang sugatan naman ang suspek ding si Renel Guyunan, 41 anyos , businessman at nakatira sa barangay San Miguel Norala, South Cotabato.


Cotabato City barangay chairperson hurt in shooting inside Mosque

SUGATAN ANG isang barangay kapitan ng Cotabato City makaraang siya ay pagbabarilin habang nasa loob ng isang mosque sa Barangay Rosary Heights 5, Cotabato City.

Naganap ang pamamaril kay Barnagay Rosary Heights 5 chairman Amil Sula dakong alas 7 ng gabi.

Sugatan din ang katabi nitong nagdarasal na nakilalang si dating Barangay Kagawad Abner Ampuan, 39 at taga Barangay RH-5.

Sila at iba pa ay nasa loob ng isang masjid na nasa second street, Don E Sero, Barangay RH-5.


RMFB-12 commander gets special citation from peace council

KORONADAL CITY --- The force commander of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-12, Police Colonel Jemuel Siason, received last week  a special commendation from the Regional Peace and Order Council for his law-enforcement feats.

The inter-agency, multi-sector RPOC-12 is chaired by Sultan Kudarat Gov. Suharto Mangudadatu.

The Siason-led RMFB-12 had apprehended in recent weeks a number of persons wanted for high-profile crimes, including large-scale trafficking of narcotics and acts of terror.
