COTABATO CITY --- A traffic enforcer and an electrician were killed in separate gun attacks in stretches of busy thoroughfares here in just two days.

The on-duty Haron Saliao was shot with a pistol repeatedly on Friday afternoon by a still unidentified attacker along Rufino Alonzo Street here, killing him on the spot.

Col. Querubin Manalang, Jr., city police director, said the gunman managed to escape amid the commotion triggered by the gunshots that reverberated through the scene, close to business establishments.

As part of PRO BAR's heightened efforts to ensure a secure Bangsamoro region throughout the festive period, Regional Director PBGEN ALLAN CRUZ NOBLEZA spearheaded the send-off ceremony for 1402nd RMFC, RMFB14-A troops to Marawi City, Lanao del Sur on December 19, 2023, held at the RMFB14-A Battalion Headquarters, Camp Brigadier General, Salipada K Pendatun, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.

The troops will be stationed at the Lanao del Sur entry and exit points, patrol the AOR, and man the police assistance desks to facilitate community access as well as swift complaint responses.

KORONADAL CITY - Two from South Cotabato province were killed in a gun attack in a remote town in Maguindanao del Norte this weekend in what is widely construed as possibly a result of a narcotics transaction that went awry.

Jerome Labis and Jovino Sepa of Barangay Canary in Polomolok and Barangay Basak in T’boli in South Cotabato province, respectively, were found lifeless with gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies in Barangay Pageda in Talitay, Maguindanao del Norte.

COTABATO CITY - Security in Central Mindanao is markedly tight since Monday, after the Dawlah Islamiya lost 23 members from December 1 to 10 in Army offensives and clashes with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. 

The Dawlah Islamiya has a reputation for bombing public places to get even for deaths of members killed in encounters with pursuing police and military forces.

COTABATO CITY - A tricycle driver was killed in another gun attack in the troubled Pikit, North Cotabato province, where 59 people had been killed one after another since 2020 in its barangays, all unsolved.

The Pikit Municipal Police Station, in a report to Col. Harold Ramos of the Provincial Police Office and the police director of Region 12, Brigadier Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, identified the fatality as Nasser Kasi Dagandal, 36, who died on the spot from a bullet wound in the head.

PARANG, Maguindanao Norte  – A farmer was killed while five others were injured when unidentified men tossed a fragmentation grenade inside a makeshift kitchen where the victims were preparing food, police said.

Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, police director for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) based here, has condemned the attack in Sitio Mafran, Barangay Pilar, South Upi, Maguindanao del Sur.

KORONADAL CITY - Dead on the spot ang biktimang kinilala na si Engr. Rey Miguel, 48 anyos na nagtatrabaho sa NGCP Sultan Kudarat matapos tambangan ng hindi pa nakikilang mga suspek ngayon hapon lamang sa Barangay Carpenter Hill.

Ayon sa mga otoridad, nagmamaneho ang biktima ng kanyang puting Mitsubishi car kasama kanyang mag-ina na pauwi na sana sa kanilang bahay sa Barangay San Isidro nitong lungsod nang paputukan ng mga suspect na nakamotor.

Maswerteng nakaligtas ang anak ng biktima ngunit tinamaan naman ang kanyang asawa, na ang kalagayan ay inaalam pa sa ngayon.

COTABATO CITY -  The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region confirmed on Tuesday that the three residents of this city captured last week for possession of six assault rifles, ammunition of various calibers and shabu are soon to have their day in court.

"Corresponding criminal cases had been filed against them using the firearms and shabu confiscated from them as evidence," said the director of the Bangsamoro regional police, Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza.
