COTABATO CITY - Probers are still clueless on Monday’s fatal ambush in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat of an election officer in a troubled town in Maguindanao del Sur province.

Haviv Macabangen Maindan, an ethnic Maguindanaon, municipal election officer of Sultan sa Barongis town in Maguindanao del Sur, died on the spot from bullet wounds when gunmen on motorcycles, positioned along a highway in Lambayong, shot his vehicle and immediately sped away.

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday vowed to seek justice for its election officer in Maguindanao del Sur province who was shot dead in Lambayong town, Sultan Kudarat province.

"The Commission on Elections strongly condemns the brazen killing of Mr. Haviv M. Maindan, Election Officer II of Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao. The whole Commission on Elections commit to the family of EO Maindan that we will not rest until justice is served," the poll body said in a press statement.

TACURONG CITY  – Unidentified gunmen ambushed and killed Monday a municipal election officer of Maguindanao del Sur in an ambush while he was heading for home in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, police said.

Captain Jetro Doligas, municipal police chief of Lambayong, said Haviv Macabangen Maindan, municipal election officer of Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao del Sur, was driving his silver gray Toyota Fortuner when ambushed in Barangay Pingguiaman, Lambayong by still unidentified gunmen riding tandem on a motorbike at about 2 p.m.

COTABATO CITY - Two were killed, one of them a woman, while another was hurt in separate gun attacks in busy spots here Wednesday.

Col. Querubin Manalang, director of the Cotabato City police, said Thursday the 20-year-old woman, Munwarh Jordan Imam, and Arven Facturan, 36, both died on the spot from bullet wounds.

Imam and a companion, Cristel Mangubat, 19, were together in a tricycle, on their way home from the public market here early Wednesday, when men positioned along the route shot them with pistols.

Imam was killed while Mangubat was wounded in the ambush.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Seven Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) extremists were killed while two others were captured following a firefight in the hinterlands of Sulu province, a top police official said Monday.

Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said the clash broke out around 1:21 a.m. Sunday on the border of Barangays Labah and Kapuk in the towns of Maimbung and Parang, respectively.

COTABATO CITY - Maranao leaders have assured to help locate at least 27 gunmen who killed a member of the 2^nd Marine Battalion and wounded three Marines in an ambush Saturday in Marogong, Lanao del Sur.

The slain Marine Sgt. John Milbert Pamaran and his companions, Cpl. Mark Anthony Bañares, Sgt. Jeram Aradji and Sgt. Joan Aniñon, were out for a community outreach activity when they were attacked by members of the Dawlah Islamiya, led by Faharudin Hadji Satar, in Barangay Cabasaran in Marogong.

COTABATO CITY --- Local terrorists killed a member of the Navy’s 2^nd Marine Battalion and wounded three Marines in an ambush afternoon Saturday in Marogong, Lanao del Sur.

Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, identified the fatality as Marine Sgt. John Milbert Pamaran, who died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

Three other personnel of the 2^nd Marine Battalion, Cpl. Mark Anthony Bañares, Sgt. Jeram Aradji and Sgt. Joan Aniñon, were wounded in the attack.
