Bumpy road blamed on accidental fire that hit BPAT member

SURALLAH, South Cotabato -- A 48-year-old village defender here was injured on his left leg after his service cal. 45 pistol accidentally went off.Julio Arostique of Barangay Colongolo told Radyo Bida that the accident was triggered by a bumpy and unpaved barangayroad. Dahil sa lubak-lubak ang daan sir, Arostique told Radyo Bida when asked what triggered his gun to fire.Arostique is a member of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team of Barangay Colongolo and was with other BPAT members on patrol on board a vehicle.As the road was bumpy, Arostique thought his gun might fall sohe took his cal.


Lightning kills 2 in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY – Two workers of a multi-national firm in Surallah, South Cotabato were
killed by lightning strike over the weekend, police said today.

Inspector Joel Fuerte, Surallah town police chief, identified the victims as Danny
Danao, 23 of Barangay Kusan, Banga town and Nestor Feller, 38, of Barangay
Dajay, Surallah town, both in South Cotabato.

Both were
workers of Sumifru Corporation, a banana production firm operating in South

LTO-12: DU30 commemorative plates no longer allowed

KORONADAL CITY -– Officials and personnel of Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Central Mindanao region have started confiscating what it said was unauthorized DU30” commemorative plates.The car plates have proliferated during the campaign period for the recently concluded national and local elections.Manuel Betaizar, LTO-12 assistant regional director, said the election is over and DU30” commemorative plates will no longer be allowed.Betaizar said under the Joint Administrative Order, it is illegal to use commemorative plate without permits and authorization issued by the LTO.


Maguindanao town councilor arrested for shabu possession

COTABATO CITY -- Police and anti-narcotics agentshave filed charges against a Maguindanao town councilorand his wife after their arrest forfor possession of prohibited drugs, DXMS Radyo Bida reported today. Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) identified the suspect as Sammy Macmod Nandang, 33, president of Association of Barangay Chairpersons of the town of Talitay, Maguindanao and his wife Alicia Hashim Nandang, 32.


Lanao Sur passenger van driver outsmarts hostage takers, kills one

COTABATO CITY (PNA) -- A passenger van driver held hostage by two men outsmarted his captors in a carnapping incident that turned ugly and left one dead and six others injured, including four soldiers in Lanao del Sur.The incident happened in Barangay Lalabuan, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur Tuesday.The Balabagan PNP office reported to PNP-Regional Office in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PNP-ARMM) Regional Director Chief Supt.

KORONADAL CITY -- A series of highway accidents due to over speeding has claimed the lives of traffic law enforcers, students and other motorists along South Cotabato major highways, Radyo Bida reported today.The latest fatality while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Davao City was Clarence Federiso, a member of Koronadal City traffic enforcers.Federiso was driving his motorbike on Thursday dawn when he was hit by a speeding Yellow Bus unit along Gen.
