North Cotabato fisher folks capture 80 kilos crocodile

KABACAN, North Cotabato -– Rising temperature, forest
fire and destruction of its natural habitat are forcing wild animals, including
freshwater crocodiles to wander, even to areas inhabited by humans, as in the
case of a 80 kilos croc found in a remote village here, officials said Friday.

The 8-feet long crocodile (Crocodylus Mindorensis) was captured
by inland-fishermen, led by Mamangkas Mamatong, in Barangay Kuyapon, Kabacan,
North Cotabato on Monday.


10 of the 81 Cotabato farmers freed from detention

KIDAPAWAN CITY (April 15) – Ten of the more than 70 farmers jailed for alleged direct assault to authorities in connection with the recent violent confrontation between them and the riot policemen were released from prisons, around 730 p.m., Thursday, reports said. Progressive lawyers belonging to the National Union of Progressive Lawyers (NUPL) and the Union of Progressive Lawyers in Mindanao (UPLM), including lawyers from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) in North Cotabato, helped the accused attain their temporary liberty.

ARMM government mourn deaths of soldiers in Basilan hostilities

COTABATO CITY -- The executive department of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is mourning the deaths of 18 soldiers killed in firefights last Saturday in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman, chairman of the regional peace and order council, said eight of the slain combatants of the Army’s 44thInfantry Battalion were residents of ARMM.

Wives of arrested farmers seek Governor Mendoza’s help

KIDAPAWAN CITY --Wives of farmers arrested during the rally dispersal here last week have sought help from Cotabato Governor Lala Mendoza to release their husbands from prison. Elenita Mangga, 45, wife of Ruben who was among the more than 70 people charged of direct assault, said her husband was just deceived by some of their leaders in the barangay into believing that they will receive at least three sacks of rice from the governor and the distribution will happen in Kidapawan City.
