Oscar Nantes, Basilan police provincial director, said the fire first broke out in a houseat about 11:15 a.m. and quickly spread to nearby houses made of light and semi-concrete materials.Fire fighters declared fire out at past 1 p.m.No casualty was reported. Arson investigators are still determining what triggered the fire.

KORONADAL CITY– Two members of communist rebels
were killed in a clash with government forces in a remote village in South
Cotabato early Friday, police here said.

police chief of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, said government forces were
conducting foot patrol in sitio Lamtapok, Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu before dawn
when they chanced upon about 9 heavily armed members of the New Peoples’ Army’s
Front 73 at 6 a.m.

collectors in Midsayap, North Cotabato on Sunday night had the greatest
haul in life that could have cost their lives - an improvised bomb
among a pile of garbage.

Supt. Tom Tuzon, Midsayap town police chief, said one of the garbage collectors on a
night shift alerted the police about his discovery, a powerful improvised
explosive device.

He said the
man, who asked not to be named, found the IED fashioned from 81 mm mortar in
the file of garbage in Barangay Malamote, Midsayap, North Cotabato at 9 p.m.
