Floods hit North Cotabato upland town too

PRESIDENT
ROXAS, North Cotabato (Sept. 6/NDBC) – Climate change continue to take its toll
on environment that even in upland towns, like this municipality experienced
floods.

About 20
farmers in the village of Alegria were displaced when the Kabacan River
overflowed due to inclement weather the past five days.

village chair, said several hectares of rice and corn fields, including banana
plantations were damaged, costing farmers several hundred thousand pesos.

Kabacan floods affect 8,435 families

KABACAN, North
Cotabato (Sept. 5) -- The floods that submerged nine villages of Kabacan, North
Cotabato has affected 8,435 families, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Council said today.

This after the
Pulangi and Kabacan Rivers overflowed Wednesday, disaster officials said.

Of the 8,435
families affected, about 162 families are now staying at two evacuation
centers.

Relatives suspect foul play in Antipas farmer

ANTIPAS,
North Cotabato, (Sept. 4/NDBC) --
Relatives of a man here who was found hanging lifeless believed he was a victim
of foul play.

Speaking
to Radyo Bida Kidapawan, relatives of 30-year-old Noel Salamanca, farmer andresident of
Barangay Poblacion, Antipas believed he was hanged by still unidentified
person.

Initial
police investigation showed that Salamanca was last seen drunk in front of his
home on Tuesday night.
