Man hacks OFW-wife over missing money, commits suicide

Maguindanao -- An overseas Filipino worker, who just returned home and
found the money she sent to her husband was unaccounted for, was hacked by her
spouse in Maguindanao Friday, police said today.

Alibonga, police chief of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, said Landy Gunsi
Paulino, 31, attacked his wife, Leni, with a machete after she confronted her about
the money she sent for the construction of the family’s home in Sitio Green
Hills, Barangay Awang here.

Banga volunteer fire brigade to represent R-12 in national fire olympics

BANGA, South Cotabato - A volunteer fire brigade here will represent the SOCCSKSARGEN region in this year's 3rd National Fire Olympics in Quezon City.Fire Chief Inspector Milo Manlabao, Banga fire chief, said the group will compete in the March 24 national contest to be held at Quezon City Memorial Circle in celebration of fire prevention month.Manlabao said the volunteer fire fighters, composed of about 15 well trained and skilled workers, are determined to bring home the bacon.

ARMM police expands security functions with `cops on motorcycles'

MAGUINDANAO --- The police has started organizing teams of scouts on motorcycles to beef up its anti-narcotics and counter-terrorism efforts in five security-challenged southern provinces.The Police Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-ARMM) trained from March 6 to 9 a pioneer batch of 76 officers on motorcycle patrol and tactical riding maneuvers to boost its domestic security initiatives. That was just an initial activity intended to complement our peacekeeping functions.

Maguindanao town assessor survives slay try

CITY –- Unidentified gunmen shot and injured the municipal assessor
of a town in Maguindanao after he was shot along a busy street here Tuesday
afternoon.

Zacaria, municipal assessor of Kabuntalan town was alone in his vehicle at 5
p.m. when two men riding tandem on a motorbike parked beside his car that
paused due to traffic.

Five
shots were fired by the suspects, according to Cotabato City police director
Senior Supt. Victor Valencia.

Magnitude 5.9 quake hit Surigao del Norte

Fire in flowing water gathers curious locals in South Cotabato
