Suspect in murder of retired professor surrenders

COTABATO CITY - Police here announced today the arrest of the alleged suspect in the murder of a retired professor university professor in her home in the city Friday last week.Senior Supt. Rex Anongos, city police director, said the alleged killer whom he refused to identify is now under police custody undergoing investigation.Anongos said the local officials helped convinced the suspect to surrender and face the charges to be filed against him. He admitted to the crime, Anongos told DXMS Radyo Bida. He added that the local officials turned over the suspect to Senior Insp.


2 men shot dead, another hurt in grenade blast

COTABATO CITY - A state university professor in Maguindanao was found dead inside her home at the outskirt village of Cotabato City Friday, police said.Noria Ali, a widow andprofessor on peace studiesof the Mindanao State University in Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, was found bloodied and lifeless inside her home along Tulingan Street,Barangay Bagua-2, Cotabato City.Police said neighbors noticed that Ali failed to come out of her house Friday morning like what she used to do daily.Curious, the neighbors knocked on her house but got no answer.


Daring robber barged in board member's home, took valuables

KORONADAL CITY - Unidentified men barged inside the house of South Cotabato's provincial board member Thursday and carted away undetermined amount of valuables, police said.Quoting a police report, DXOM-AMRadyo Bida Koronadal, reported that the house of South Cotabato provincial board member Grace Subere-Albios in Marville Homes, Barangay Sto Nino, South Cotabato,was ransacked by still unidentified men.Scene of the crime operatives found the second floor of the two-story house in disarray.

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PNA) -– One person died while nine others were injured when an improvised bomb exploded late Thursday at a massage parlor in this city.Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Zamboanga City police director, said the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at a massage parlor at the junction of M. Calixto and San Jose Road just more than 100 meters away from the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) headquarters.Casimiro said the victim who died is only identified as a certain Irene.


Cotabato Light consumers brace for brownout

CITY – The Aboitiz-owned Cotabato Light and Power Company (Cotabato Light)
today warned of longer power interruption in its franchise areas if the
critical water levels in the Agus and Pulangi hydropower plants deteriorate.

Hipega, Cotabato Light corporation communications officer, said the power
utility is yet to impose rotational brownout in Cotabato City and the towns of
Sultan Kudarat and Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao.


Hundreds to join Cotabato City earthquake drill

COTABATO CITY - The Cotabato City government and disaster agencies, led by the Office of Civil Defense,will conduct earthquake drill Thursday.The drill will take place at about 8:30 a.m.Lawyer Cynthia Guiani Sayadi, city administrator, said the drill includes lectures and actual rescue operations in identified areas, buildings and schools.
