SoCot ex-village chief slain in drug bust

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A former barangay chairperson in the South Cotabato town of Polomolok was killed in an anti-drug operation on Tuesday afternoon, an official said.

Lt. Col. Alex Joe Orcajada, chief of Polomolok municipal police station, said Wednesday that suspect Diosdado Empleo Cruz, former chairman of Barangay Rubber, was killed after resisting arrest during an entrapment operation in Barangay Magsaysay past 5 p.m.


NDBC COVID WATCH: 44 patients recover, 50 new ones added to the list

COTABATO CITY – Forty-four more patients who have the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Region 12 have recovered as of Wednesday night, the Department of Health (DOH-12) today said.

With 44 new patients having survived the disease, Region 12 now has a total of 1,548 individuals who defeated the virus.

Of the number of patients who survived, 22 were from Gen. Santos City, 10 in Cotabato City, North Cotabato five, South Cotabato four, Sarangani two and one in Sultan Kudarat.


2 Makilala residents drown in rampaging floods

NORTH COTABATO - Two residents were drowned Tuesday in floodwaters that flowed downstream through a large river in Makilala town following heavy rains in hinterlands around nearby Mount Apo.

Only one of the two fatalities, Edzel Lanzon Gudmalin, has been identified so far. 

North Cotabato’s upland Makilala town is located at the foot of Mount Apo, the country’s highest peak surrounded by tropical rainforests from where large rivers crisscrossing the municipality spring from.


Tawi-Tawi sea mishaps: 11 seafarers rescued, 4 in another boat missing

COTABATO CITY --- Authorities rescued Monday 11 seafarers on a boat that capsized due to strong waves while sailing from Sitangkai to Bongo in Tawi-Tawi province. 

Four other passengers of another boat, marked Baby Nor, that reportedly disappeared at the same sea route, Jig Abdul, Ajil Abdul, Julhamin Abdul and Raiza Abdul, are still missing. 


Rampaging flood waters threaten North Cotabato bridge

MAKILALA, North Cotabato -- Heavy downpour at the slopes of Mt. Apo triggered flash floods to one of the town's majro river, the Bulatukan River Monday afternoon. 

Video and still images shared by netizens, mostly residents of Barangay Bulatukan, Batasan and Kisante in Makilala showed the rampaging floodwaters carried huge debris of logs, wood and even huge stones.

Traffic along portions of the national highway was also temporarily stopped while the floodwaters cut through the Bulatukan River.  Commuters were allowed to pass an hour later.

Child, 3, went missing, later found dead in South Cotabato river

TANTANGAN, South Cotabato - Matapos ang magdamag na paghahanap, patay na nang matagpuan ng kanyang mga kaanak ang tatlong taong gulang na si Charidylle alyas "Gogoy" Pran, sa Tantangan, South Cotabato, dakong 7:00 ng umaga kanina.

Ang biktimang si Pran ay natagpuan sa Barangay Dumadalig, Tantangan, ilang kilometro ang layo mula sa kanilang lugar na Barangay New Iloilo sa nasabing bayan.


Sinkhole found in Tuluan, North Cotabato open field

TULUNAN, North Cotabato - Na-kordon na ng Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council o MDRRMC ang nasa 20-talampakang sinkhole na natagpuan ng mga residente sa Barangay Lampagang, Tulunan, Cotabato.

Sa ulat na ipinarating sa Radyo Bida ni Tulunan MDRRMC Head Engr. Ernie Diaz, may lawak na dalawang metros ang nasabing sinkhole na nasa bandang open field ng isang private lot sa nasabing barangay.


UDATE: Fruit dealer slain in gun, grenade attack

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – A fruit dealer was killed when shot by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Singao here Sunday night, police said.

Lt. Colonel Ramil Hojilla, Kidapawan City police director, identified the victim as Mark Romerde, 45, a resident of Barangay Singao.

Initial investigation showed that Romerde and his wife were sitting in front of their roadside home when a man emerged from nowhere.

The man was reportedly looking for the victim. After Romerde introduced himself, the man shot him four times at about 8:15 p.m.


6th ID chief installs new 603rd brigade commander
