Richest helping the poorest: "Adopt Tribal Family" strategy

Five of the country's richest men will be invited to adopt the 140 to 150 families of the Ata-Manobo tribe who were never reached by government as they lived deep in the jungles in the tri-boundaries of Davao del Norte, Bukidnon and Agusan del Sur since they were born.

Catamco, NCIP to cooperate on IP welfare promotion programs

KIDAPAWAN CITY --- Gov. Nancy Catamco and Secretary Allen Capuyan of the National Commission on Indigenous People have agreed to cooperate on activities meant to foster peace and sustainable development in tribal homelands in North Cotabato province.

Catamco said Saturday she is thankful to Capuyan for visiting the provincial capitol in Kidapawan City early this week to discuss with her and constituent-tribal leaders how the NCIP wishes to forge ahead with its programs intended to empower North Cotabato’s tribal communities.

Reward for info on killers of Manobo tribeswoman up

NORTH COTABATO --- Gov. Nancy Catamco has offered a reward for the arrest of the suspects in the gory murder Sunday in Magpet town of a female Manobo tribal leader.

Catamco, also a member of North Cotabato’s indigenous community, is chairperson of the provincial peace and order council.

She announced Tuesday that she is ready to give out cash incentives to informants who can help the police identify the killers of tribeswoman Bae Merlin Ansabo Celis of Magpet town in North Cotabato.

Cotabato guv condemns murder of lady tribal leader

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco today strongly condemn the murder of a lady leader of an Indigenous Peoples (IP) community in Magpet, North Cotabato on Sunday.

“This act may instill fear among our IP sisters and brothers whose only desire is to live in our ancestral domain according to our culture and tradition,” Gov. Catamco, a member of Manobo Dulangan tribe, said in A statement.

TESDA-12 brings electricity to IP village in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY - Over 100 households will soon have electricity in the farthest sitio of Barangay Ned Lake Sebu South Cotabato as Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) launched its new project for Indigenous Peoples communities. 

During the launching of the IPEACE project or Indigenous People Empowered as Agripreneur towards a Collective End, project TALA “TESDA Alay ay Liwanay at Asenso” was also presented to the different sitio leaders of the barangay.

IP leaders want to preserve horse fight tradition

SEN. NINOY AQUINO, Sultan Kudarat – Members of Indigenous Peoples here have called for the preservation of their culture and tradition on horse fight as part of cultural celebration.

Members of the Dulangan Manobo tribe have joined the “Sulok” Festival (festival of indigenous bags), leaders of IP communities called for the preservation of horse fight as one of the highlights of cultural gathering of IPs, especially in SNA (formerly the town of Kulaman).

CSO, Youth group extend help to IP community in Maguindanao

GUINDULUNGAN, Maguindanao – More than 100 Indigenous Peoples living in a remote village here have benefitted from the community outreach and food distribution program conducted by a non-government organization.

The group, led by Aileen Usob Hualde, chair of Women Organization of Rajah Mamalu Descendants (WORMD) and non-Moro IP Youth Group headed by Rojohn Ented, initiated the outreach program.

“We extended help and we immersed with them for two days,” Hualde said of the Feb. 7-8 activity in Sitio Fute, Barangay Ahan, Guindulungan, Maguindanao.

NGO, local leaders extend aid to IP children in Maguindanao upland community

COTABATO CITY  – More than 100 pupils of a remote and far-flung day care center have benefitted from the outreach program conducted by a non-government organization in partnership with the local government of Upi, Maguindanao on Thursday.

The volunteers, led by Aileen Kesa Marie Usob-Hualde, director of Women Organization of Rajah Mamalu Descendants (WORMD) and Upi town Councilor Saidie Lidasan, in partnership with barangay officials of Borongotan as well as the youth.

BARMM to advance IP rights over ancestral domains

COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples' Affairs (MIPA-BARMM) recently assessed and evaluated ancestral domains in the province in an activity held on September 18 at the San Isidro Labrador Parish in North Upi, Maguindanao.

With the theme, “Convergence for Empowerment Towards United Indigenous People in the Bangsamoro Government," the MIPA convened the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMR), tribal leaders, project officers from different areas in Maguindanao, and other stakeholders.
