Muslim mother gives birth to Mindanao’s first test-tube baby

DAVAO CITY -- A Muslim mother gave birth to Mindanao’s first test-tube baby at the Brokenshire Hospital here at 3:43 p.m. Thursday.Baby boy Muhagher, who weighed 3.22 kg. and measured 49 cm. long, is the first baby born from a successful pregnancy through the in vitro fertilization (IVF) offered by Brokenshire Hospital, which opened its IVF facility in October last year.IVF is a process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body.

Rising dengue cases alarm IPHO-Maguindanao

SHARIFF AGUAK,
Maguindanao -– Health authorities in Maguindanao have expressed alarm
over the rising dengue cases in the province, which to date, have recorded six
deaths due what they described as preventable disease.

Dr. Tahir
Sulaik, Maguindanao health chief and head of the Integrated Provincial health
Office (IPHO), said from January to first week of August, 428 dengue cases have
been reported, about six percent higher as compared to the same period last
year.

DOST-ARMM to host Halal Congress

COTABATO CITY --In preparation to the ASEAN integration, the Department of Science and Technology in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOST-ARMM) will conduct a Halal Congress in August this year to help propel the region’s bid to get a slice of the multi-billion global halal market. Myra Mangkabung, DOST-ARMM regional secretary, said the highlight of the congress will be the launching of the ARMM Halal Ecosystem (AHE), an inter-agency body that will oversee and coordinate the region’s efforts to become the hub of the halal industry in the country.

KIDAPAWAN CITY -The documentation of case studies on the experiences, lessons, and good practices on disaster risk reduction and mitigation, especially in NorthCotabato, would begin soon. This as the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between two global organizations working in areas vulnerable to disasters took place in Makati City on May 27. Signatories to the MoA were Christopher John Lane, director for global operations of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA), and Javad Amoozegar, country director of the Action Against Hunger (ACF) International.
