Teens, gov’t agencies push for teen-friendly health services

NORTH COTABATO — Secondary school
pupils joined school heads, guidance advocates, health service providers, and
members of civil society organizations in a seminar on August 30-31, 2018 to work
with their respective rural health units (RHUs) in Arakan and Magpet towns to improve
their programs for the youth, particularly on adolescent health services.

PhilHealth 12 holds forum on Maternal Care Providers

KORONADAL CITY – The Philippine Health Insurance
Corporation (PhilHealth-12) reached out to its partners in the region to answer
issues affecting the government health programs.

Held at Cinco Niñas, Koronadal City, the forum
provided a venue for health providers to discuss, among others, and present
requirements for accreditation of maternity care package (MCP) providers.

The Commission on
Population (POPCOM) will gather its leaders for a symposium on Philippine
Population Management Program entitled Bridging Leaders for Well-Planned
Filipino Families and Empowered Society. This aims to improve the leadership
capacity of the agency’s top and middle managers to address population and
development issues of the country.

Sulu diarrhea outbreak leaves 5 kids dead, downs 44

COTABATO CITY – Five children have died due to diarrhea as health officials in the
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) declared an outbreak of water borne
disease in three villages of Pata, Sulu.

Dr. Kadil Sinolinding,
Department of Health (DOH-ARMM) regional secretary, said Pata municipal health
workers have reported that the diarrhea outbreak has downed 44 persons, mostly
children suffering from acute gastroenteritis.

Cotabato City health raises alarm over rising measles cases

COTABATO CITY – Health officials here have sounded the alarm bell as the number of measles cases continue to rise.
Dr. Suher Guinomla-Ibrahim, acting city health chief, said she ordered health front liners to get out of the city heath office and bring anti-measles vaccination to the residents’ homes.

Suicide cases discussed in DOH XII ‘Dialogue’

COTABATO CITY -- Suicide and how to deal
with it was the focus Monday, March 5, of the Monday Dialogue at the Department
of Health XII Montañer Hall here.

Dr. Adimelea Gangoso, who spoke about Suicide
First Aid Guidelines to DOH XII employees, said that suicide attempts are higher
among females, but more males actually commit suicide.

Depression and fears are common signs
that a person is suicidal, Gangoso said, as she also explained the changes in
the behavior of a person who is attempting to commit suicide.

March 8 is ‘Buntis Day’ at CRMC

Cotabato Regional and Medical Center,
the Department of Health Region 12, and DOH-ARMM jointly celebrated National
Buntis Day Thursday, with the theme Kaagapay ni Buntis sa Panahon ng
Kalamidad at Krisis.

An unexpected 446 participants and 80
barangay health workers and midwives from the different barangays in the city
were present in the CRMC Auditorium which was not enough to hold the number of
people.

Aside from pregnant women from the
barangays, outpatients of the hospital were also invited.

SOCCSKSARGEN 3rd highest in teen pregnancy rate nationwide

COTABATO CITY -- Davao Region is ranked highest in teenage
pregnancy rate in the country based on the results 2017 National Demographic
and Health Survey (NDHS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

SOCCSKSARGEN ranked third next to
Northern Mindanao.

The NDHS, conducted among women
respondents aged 15-19 years old, revealed that the national fertility rate has
declined from 3.0 percentof 2013 to 2.7 percent.
