South Cotabato suspected measles on the rise

(Sept. 15/NDBC) – Health authorities here said four children have died due to measles assuspectedmeasles cases in South Cotabato
rose to more than 950 this year.

Nineteen of
these suspected cases are confirmed measles,” Cecil Lorenzo, Provincial Epidemiology
Surveillance Unit (PESU) head told DXOM-Koronadal, adding that her office
recorded 955 suspected cases from January to date.


Girl dies of measles? DOH Koronadal probes

(Sept. 13/NDBC) - Health Officials in South Cotabato are still investigating the
case of a 9-year-old girl who died of suspected measles, a health official said

fatality who hails from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, died on September 12 because
of pneumonia, one of the complications of measles.

But Cecil
Lorenzo, Provincial Epediomology Surviellance Unit (PESU) chief, said the case
is still being verified.


Kabacan Village officialand 3 kids die of measles

Cotabato (Sept. 11/NDBC) — Measles have claimed the lives of at least three
children in a remote village here, a village official today said.

Antonio, village chair of Pisan, Kabacan, North Cotabato, said the fatalities
were from two separate sitios (sub-villages).
Two of whom were identified as Angel Heart Adim and her sister Precious,
both residents of Purok Cueva and a still unidentified child from Purok Kalimudan
of Barangay Pisan, Kabacan.


Fuentes pushes creation of SoCot Regional Medical Center

(Sept. 7/NDBC) – South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes today reiterated her
desire to establish the South Cotabato Regional Medical Center here to also
serve the other half of the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

Speaking over DXOM-Radyo
Bida-Koronadal, Fuentes said the medical and health needs of the people of
South Cotabato is rising, thus the need for modern and bigger hospital.


IPHO-North Cotabato starts anti-measles, anti-polio mass immunization

Cotabato (Sept. 4/NDBC) – Health workers in North Cotabato’s 17 municipalities
and one city have started mass immunization of children aged 0-59 months old as
the province participated in the nationwide campaign to contain meales and
polio, health officials said.

The month-long
Measles Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine (MR-OPV) mass immunization was launched here
Tuesday, according to a statement released by the provincial government.


ARMM gets medical equipment package from foreign donors

COTABATO CITY --- Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao were elated with last week’s donation to the ARMM government of P4 million worth of medical equipment by the European Union and the international donor agency Oxfam.Physician Allen Minalang, chief of the Lanao del Sur Integrated Provincial Health Office, said he and his subordinate-medical practitioners in the province are grateful to the EU and Oxfam for the assistance package.He said even private doctors in Lanao del Sur, which has 39 towns, are as thankful to the EU and Oxfam.


DOH-ARMM taps youth in fight vs. dengue

COTABATO CITY– The Department of Health in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM) underscores the role of the youth and the community in addressing health issues such as dengue.Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, DOH-ARMM Secretary, said dengue is a year round public health threat and the number of dengue cases in the region is expected to increase especially now that the wet season has started. The number of dengue cases was down (from last year’s figures).


Diarrhea outbreak under control in N. Cotabato village

MAGPET, North Cotabato -- The diarrhea outbreak at Barangay Don Panaca here, which downed Monday 85 people, is now under control.Magpet Mayor Florenito Gonzaga said all those affected by the occurrence were given medical attention while health personnel were deployed in the area to observe and respond to any crisis that might arise.Local health officials have collected water samples in the village for laboratory test.Authorities believe that the source of drinking water in the area may have been contaminated due to heavy rains the past several days across the province.Gonzaga ordered the Ba

COTABATO CITY– A health worker from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) will receive an award from the Department of Health (DoH) central officeon Thursday, June 23, in Manila for her excellent service in her community.Virginia Cadano, 56, a midwife from Lamitan City in Basilan, will receive the DoH ‘Bayani ng Kalusugan Award 2016’. The award, given annually, aims at recognizing individuals, groups and organizations for exemplary work, innovation and reforms towards universal health care (UHC). Cadano has been serving as a rural health midwife in Brgy.
