DENR-12 personnel seize illegally cut lumber in North Cotabato

KIDAPAWN CITY  – Despite the coronavirus pandemic, personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in North Cotabato did not lower its guards and continued implementing forestry laws.

On Wednesday, the anti-illegal logging task force (AILTF) of the Midsayap Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 12 seized 1,520 board feet of undocumented forest products in Aleosan, North Cotabato.

DENR-12 creates satellite office in North Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – To improve delivery of environmental services, protection and conservation of natural resources amid coronavirus pandemic, the Department of Environment in the Soccsksargen region has established Wednesday a satellite office in President Roxas, North Cotabato.

The creation of satellite office, a sub office of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) was indicative of the DENR-12 officials’ determination to serve the people at the same time protect the environment.

The sub-office will be known as CENRO-Roxas.

DENR-12 has new regional executive director

KORONADAL CITY - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Soccsksargen region (DENR-12) has new regional executive director.

Lawyer Felix S. Alicer has been official installed by DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations, Enforcement and Muslim Affairs Jim O Sampulna, CESO III together with DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations in Western Mindanao Metodio U. Turbella today formally installed Atty. Felix S. Alicer as the new Regional Executive Director (RED) of DENR Region-12 during ceremonies at the regional office here.

Philippine Grass Owl rescued in Tulunan, NoCot

TULUNAN, COTABATO - Naiturn-over na sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources o DENR 3rd District Satellite Office sa bayan ng Matalam kahapon ang isang endangered Philippine Grass Owl na nakita ng isang residente sa Tulunan, North Cotabato.

Ayon sa ulat, nahuli ng residenteng si June Butil sa kanilang sakahan sa bandang Brgy Popoyon ng bayan ang nasabing ibon na tila ay nahihirapang maglakad at may pilay ang kanyang kanang pakpak at nanghihina na ito.

Sa taya ng mga otoridad, nasa dalawa hanggang tatlong buwan na ang nasabing ibon batay sa laki nito.

BARMM vows to protect never before seen otters in Tawi-Tawi

COTABATO CITY  – At least six (6) small sea otters, a never before seen species in the Philippines, were spotted in the coasts of Taganak Island, a component island of Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi.

According to the province’s District-1 Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Abdulmukim Maruji, the otters, spotted on the island on May 15, 17 and 20, were identified as smooth-coated otters (Lutrogale perspicillata).

More sea turtules release in Sarangani province

MORE SEA TURTLES RELEASED IN SARBAY. Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Glan together with barangay local officials in Lun Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province released another batch of Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) marine turtle hatchlings on Tuesday, May 26.

According to reports, the hatchlings started emerging about 5:30 in the morning and were released in the coastal waters of Purok Compulsory of the said barangay around 7:30 AM.

62 Pawikan hatchlings released in Sarangani Bay

GLAN, SARANGANI PROVINCE – Authorities here helped the 62 Olive Ridley Sea Turtle (Lepidochelysolivacea) hatchlings popularly known as “Pawikan” find their way home after the small turtles released Monday, May 4, in Sarangani Bay.

Charlie Tuling, chairperson of Barangay Pangyan, said the eggs were laid last March 18 at Purok Bucana and were safeguarded by Hajerol Diabal, a local volunteer caretaker.

Tuling alongside Diabal, barangay kagawads Peter Bagando and Marino Gonzales released the hatchlings Monday afternoon along the shoreline of Purok Dungon of the said barangay.

Serpent Eagle rescued from hunter in Maasim, Sarangani Province

MAASIM, Sarangani  – Environment officials here have rescued a young juvenile “Crested Serpent Eagle” (Spilomis cheela) which was captured by local hunter and displayed on his social media account, an act that worried officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12).

The endangered bird is now safe in the hands of the Community Environment and Natural Resources of Kiamba (CENRO-Kiamba).

Eastern Grass-owl rescued, released in Koronadal City

KORONADAL CITY – A concerned citizen in this city has found an “Eastern Grass-owl” (Tyto longimembris) and turned it over to the officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 12 who eventually released the species back to its natural habitat.

Dr. Rosalinda B. Cortez, chief of the DENR-12 conservation and development division, said the owl was found on Sunday morning, April 5, by Peter Francisco Biñas, Sr. while taking some vegetables in a rice field in Robredo Street.

Biñas said the owl was entangled by a thread of suspected kite.
