12 barangays in Isabela City, Basilan flooded

COTABATO CITY - Flashfloods, spawned by heavy rains, swept through 12 barangays in Isabela City in Basilan before dawn Wednesday, affecting thousands of villagers.

Local officials and personnel of the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office told reporters calamity responders have been dispatched to flooded areas to help relocate residents to higher grounds.

Worst hit by rampaging floodwaters were Isabela City’s Barangays Baluno, Lanote, Aguada, Sunrise, Cabunbanta, Menzi, Sumagdang, Makiri, Isabela Proper, Riverside, Kumalarang and Tabuk.

Heavy rains dampen Christmas celebrations in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – Heavy rains lashing most parts of the Caraga Region since Saturday have forced residents to abandon their abodes for safety due to floods.

The local government units (LGUs) have mobilized their respective disaster response teams as rainfall warnings were issued on Sunday in the provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.

Surigao, Agusan communities flooded on Christmas Day

BUTUAN CITY – Some parts of Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte experienced heavy rains on Saturday night and greeted Christmas Day on Sunday with floods.

Strong winds also forced the Philippine Coast Guard stations in Surigao del Norte and Siargao Island to temporarily suspend sea travels.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) dispatched personnel to Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte as families were rescued in the villages of Mahanub, Villaflor, Ipil, Cambo-ayon and Poniente with the help of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

This is at the foot of Mount Minandar in Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte where the tragic landslide swept homes and claimed dozens of lives.

Fogs hovered the coned-shaped mountain, glistened by the shimmering stars above and the glow of last quarter moon bright.

No Filipino victim in deadly Malaysia landslide

MANILA – There was no Filipino national among the casualties in a deadly Malaysian campsite landslide that killed 21 and left a dozen more missing on Friday.

“So far, the (Philippine Embassy in Malaysia) has not received any reports of Filipinos affected by the incident. Post continues to monitor developments in the search and rescue operations,” Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza told reporters.

The Embassy is in touch with the Filipino community in Malaysia and has reached out to authorities involved in the search and rescue operations.

MPW mobilizes equipment for road clearing; repairs damaged infrastructures

COTABATO CITY — Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has mobilized its heavy equipment and personnel to clear the roads affected by massive floodings and landslides after Tropical Storm Paeng hit the region. 

Several roads and bridges in some parts of the Bangsamoro region suffered closure due to soil erosion and flash floods. 

TS Paeng: BARMM Gov’t’s disaster response to flood-affected areas ongoing

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Government, through the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), is currently responding to the flood-affected residents in the region due to continuous rains spawned by Tropical Storm Paeng on Oct. 28, 2022. 

Together with the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi) and other ministries, food, non-food items, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities, and other goods are now being distributed to ensure that the basic needs of those affected families and individuals are met.

At least 13 die due to flash floods, landslide in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY  – At least 13 persons were confirmed dead while several others were missing due to flash floods and landslides that hit Maguindanao, disaster officials today said.

Heavy down pour spawned by Typhoon Paeng started at about 8 p.m. Thursday submerged low-lying areas here and in Maguindanao and North Cotabato.
