Drug den demolished, 4 nabbed in PDEA anti-drug ops in Kidapawan

KIDAPAWAN CITY - A drug-den owner and three other drug personalities were arrested during anti-narcotic operation conducted by joint operatives of PDEA Cotabato Provincial Office and Kidapawan City Police Station on Monday night at Barangay Amas here.

The arrested drug personalities were identified as Nestor Mapili , 53, vulcanizing shop and drug den owner, Edwin Genota, 26, Angelito Garilles, 45, and Jeremy Patrecio, 40, all residents of Kidapawan City.

The vulcanizing shop serving as a drug den owned by Mapili has been operating for more than a year already.

LPA, ITCZ bring scattered rains over VisMin, Palawan

MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Visayas and Palawan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday.

In its weather bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was located at 200 km east of Davao City at 3 a.m.

Benison Estareja of PAGASA said the chances of the LPA becoming a tropical depression are very low.

Sox, BARMM record fewer Covid-19 cases, more recoveries

COTABATO CITY – The neighboring regions of Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have recorded more recoveries for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19 infections, health authorities said.

In a report Tuesday, the Department of Health in Soccsksargen (DOH-12) said Koronadal City and Tacurong City and the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato have listed zero Covid-19 infections.

Dr. Aristides Concepcion-Tan, DOH-12 director, noted that the four areas recorded high cases in January and February this year.

DOLE seeks wage subsidy to cushion impact of oil price surge

MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has proposed the grant of a three-month wage subsidy for private-sector workers, particularly for minimum wage earners, amid soaring oil prices.

Speaking to President Rodrigo Duterte during his Talk to the People aired Wednesday, Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said the subsidy with a proposed PHP24 billion funding will cover around one million workers from April to June.

Villager perished, foot bridges destroyed by floods in South Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY --- A villager perished and two footbridges over two rivers were damaged by flashfloods Tuesday in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato that affected hundreds of villagers, mostly ethnic T’bolis.

Rolly Aquino, OIC of the South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said Wednesday the cadaver of the villager who was drowned in rampaging floodwaters in Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu had been recovered by local emergency responders.

Maguindanao ambush leaves 9 dead, 3 hurt

GUINDULUNGAN, Maguindanao  – An early morning ambush in a remote village here left nine persons dead, officials said.

Involved in the ambush were two luxury vehicles traveling in convoy, according to Mayor Midpantao Midtimbng Jr of Guindulungan town.

He said the ambush occurred in Sitio Dam, Barangay Malumamis, Guindulungan at past 8 a.m.

Responding police counted nine dead bodies inside and outside a maroon Mitsubishi Montero (RNW-889) and Black Ford Ranger (LAC-6907).

LGUs urged to emulate good governance awardees

COTABATO CITY – The local government minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) remains optimistic that the good practices of local government units (LGUs), recognized and awarded during the BARMM 3rd founding anniversary, will be replicated by other towns and localities.

Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, BARMM interior and local government minister, said the awarding of performing LGUs in the region forms part of the “recognition mechanism” the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) has put forward to improve governance.
