Lorenzana: 17 dead bodies recovered from C-130 crash site in Patikul, Sulu

MANILA – At least 17 charred bodies A Philippine Air Force (PAF) C-130H Hercules transport aircraft crashed in Patikul, Sulu on Sunday morning, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Cirilito Sobejana confirmed.

In an interview with reporters, Sobejana said the incident happened around 11: 30 a.m.

85 more PNP personnel recover from Covid-19

MANILA – Another 85 police personnel recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the Philippine National Police’s total recovery tally to 25,704.

The latest PNP Health Service data released on Sunday, however, showed 90 more police officers contracted the coronavirus.

This brings the number of active cases in the police force to 1,767 out of a total of 27,544 infections since the pandemic started in March last year.

Former Pres. Noynoy Aquino, dead at 61

MANILA -- Former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III died on Thursday morning, June 24. He was 61.

"PNoy RIP (rest in peace). [He] was rushed to hospital early this morning and passed after efforts to revive failed. Please pray for him. Salamat (Thank you)," Former Interior Sec. Mar Roxas said in a statement.

Aquino, the 15th president, the son of democracy icons Ninoy and Cory Aquino, died this morning. He was rushed at the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City, according to Philippine Star broadsheet.

DTI-12 destroys P80-K seized uncertified products

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) destroyed some PHP80,313 worth of uncertified products that were seized in a series of enforcement operations here early this year.

In a statement Wednesday, DTI-Region 12 director Jude Constantine Jaugan said the unauthorized items were confiscated from various establishments during the regionwide monitoring and enforcement activities from March to April.

Mayor Montasir Sabal nabbed in Batangas, slain in escape try while in police custody

MANILA, Philippines — A former mayor of Maguindanao linked to the Davao City bombing in 2016 was killed by police after he allegedly tried to escape while being transported to Camp Crame Thursday morning.

PNP Director General Guillermo Eleazar said in a news conference in Camp Crame that Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) agents have arrested Montasir Sabal in Batangas Batangas port at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Arrested with him were Noraida Nandang, 43;  Mohaladin Mokaram, 36; Aika de Asis, 34; Aileen Kumpanya, 45; Soharto Monico, 28; and Wilson Santos, 41.
