MAGUINDANAO --- Hundreds of families were dislocated by the clashes this week between the Dawlah Islamiya and units of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

The Dawlah Islamiya terror group, also known as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, is using the flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria as banner.

The outlawed group and units of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division comprising the Joint Task Force Central, or JTFT, figured in 23 brief encounters from between Sunday until noontime Wednesday at Barangays Pamalian and Pusaw in Shariff Saidona Mustapha, Maguindanao.

The scenes of the encounters are not too distant from villages in Mamasapano and Shariff Aguak towns in the same province.

In a statement emailed Thursday, the office of Shariff Aguak Mayor Marop Ampatuan said five barangays under him were affected by the hostilities.

The heavy exchanges of gunfire during the deadly showdowns this week between JTFC combatants and Dawlah Islamiya terrorists in Shariff Saidona Mustapha forced residents of nearby Barangays Malingaw, Bialong, Kuloy, Lapok and Pina in Shariff Aguak to abandon their homes for fear of getting trapped in the crossfire.

Residents of Shariff Saidona Mustapha’s adjoining Barangays Pusaw and Pamalian have evacuated to safer areas early on.

The local government units in the conflict-stricken Maguindanao towns have urged the social welfare ministry of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to immediately embark on relief missions needed to ease the plight of evacuees.
