TACURONG CITY - Unidentified gunman tried but failed to kill a village chairperson in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, police said Wednesday.

Police Major Ronnie Daldo, speaking for Sultan Kudarat police provincial office, identified the victims as Mosaid Kandatu, chairperson of Barangay Pimbalayan, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.

Initial investigation showed that Kandatu was supervising a barangay activity at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the village covered court when an unidentified man arrived and opened fire on him.

He was hit in his abdomen and is now recuperating in an undisclosed hospital in Tacurong City.

“This is more of a personal grudge involving the village chairman and an unidentified family,” Daldo said.

It was not clear if Daldo has armed security escorts during the attack.

Investigation continues.
