Quakes hit east of Mindanao

GEN. SANTOS CITY — A magnitude 6.2 earthquake rocked eastern part of Mindanao today and traced by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismologyt to Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

In a bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake’s epicenter was at 92 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso at 6:12 p.m.

It also recorded three aftershocks, the latest at 7:15 p.m.

Phivolcs said that the 6:12 p.m. quake was of tectonic origin and had a 76-kilometer depth of focus.

It has recorded the following intensities:

Intensity IV – Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani
Intensity III – Kidapawan City; Koronadal City
Intensity I – Cagayan de Oro City; Bislig City

Nobody was reported injured.

Since Saturday, Phivolcs recorded more than 25 aftershocks after the Friday night tremor.

Phivolcs said more aftershocks are expected.
