ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat  – Police blamed an extortion group as the perpetrator of the public market bombing here Saturday morning that left eight persons injured.

Lt. Colonel Joven Bagaybay, Isulan town police chief, said the mayor of Isulan received an extortion demand through her mobile phone purportedly from the extortionist gang.

Bagyabay said the suspects threatened the local government that bombings will happen if their demand of P250,000 a month protection money is ignored.

He said the extort group called Mayor Marites Palasigue on Monday (Sept. 2) and asked for money, telling the mayor that a bomb will explode if their demand was ignored.

“They are demanding P250,000 a month from the Isulan LGU,” Bagaygay said.

Bagaybay also said that the police is now in possession of a CCTV footage of the city government security cameras in front of the town market.

These footages include what appeared to be the planting of IED on Friday night and the actual explosion at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

One of the CCTV footages showed a woman on motorbike arriving at the blast site on Friday night, left what appeared to be a bag beside the motorbike and walked away. The suspect also left the motorbike he used.

Bagaybay said suspect was a man disguised as a woman with a wig, shoulder bag and white shots.

Police are reviewing the CCTV to have clearer view of the suspect.

Bagaygay said eight persons were injured in the blast, including the traffic enforcer and the off duty militiaman.
