BASILAN --- Gov. Jim Salliman said Tuesday he was honored with the visit of officials of the Cotabato City-based Malaysian-led International Monitoring (IMT) to the provincial capitol in Isabela City in this island province.

The IMT, comprised of military, police and non-uniformed conflict resolution experts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, Norway and the European Union, has been helping monitor since 2004 the peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The group that visited Salliman at his office Tuesday was led by IMT’s present mission head, Malaysian Army Major Gen. Dato Yacob Bin Samiran.

Salliman said his dialogue with the visiting IMT officials was cordial.

He said their visit to Basilan complemented efforts of his administration to show to outsiders and prospective investors from other provinces and from abroad that there is peace now in the province.

Salliman and his brother, Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman, are staunch supporters of Malacañang’s diplomatic overture with the MILF, meant to put a closure to the now five-decade Moro secessionist issue.
