Officials form TWG for transfer of 63 villages to BARMM

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the provincial government of North Cotabato, during a meeting here, have prepared the smooth turnover of 63 villages to BARMM jurisdiction.

On Tuesday, North Cotabato Vice Gov. Emmylou Mendoza, serving as acting governor, met with representatives of the BARMM and created the 1st Provincial Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting to lay down the mechanism of transition of 63 villages from North Cotabato to BARMM.

These 63 villages, all Muslim dominated, voted for inclusion to the BARMM during the plebiscite in February this year. 

Present during the meeting were Vice Gov. Mendoza, Provincial Interior and Local Government Officer Ali Abdullah, 602nd Infantry Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, BARMM DILG Minister Naguib Sinarimbo and North Cotabato and municipal officials of the towns of Aleosan, Pikit, Carmen, Kabacan, Pigcawayan and Midsayap where the 63 villages come from.

Mendoza who campaigned for inclusion of 63 villages to the new political entity said town mayors and their respective local government officers will regularly meet to lay down implementing guidelines for the smooth transfer of governance.

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority and the Bangsamoro Parliament is considering the creation of another province that will be composed of 63 villages.

Currently, BARMM is composed of the provinces of Maguindano, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Cotabato, Marawi and Lamitan.
