LANAO DEL SUR --- Six more members of the Maute terror group surrendered to the military on Monday.

Pacalinog Bantogaranao, Monib Padati, Batalo Hajicaya, Tokiin Cuaro, Micky Hajicaya and Mobarak Hajicaya, voluntarily yielded to the 49th Infantry Battalion through the intercession of local executives, among them members of the Lanao del Sur provincial peace and order council.

They all belong to a group led by Madie Maute, relative of siblings Omarkayam and Abdullah Maute, who instigated the May 23 to October 16, 2017 siege of Marawi City.

The negotiation for the surrender of the six militants was facilitated by Mayor Mahar Dagalangit of Lumba Bayabao town in the first district of Lanao del Sur.

More than 50 members of the Maute terror group returned to the fold of law in batches in the past 18 monts.

Another terrorist, Arias Adhor, also voluntarily turned himself in to the military in Butig, Lanao del Sur on Sunday.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana of the Western Mindanao Command said Tuesday the provincial government of Lanao del Sur has assured to help usher the former Maute militants back to mainstream society.

He said the continuing backdoor efforts of provincial officials to secure the surrender of  members of the Maute, operating in the fashion of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, has weakened the group effectively.
