COTABATO CITY -- An old woman was killed and two others were wounded, including an old man and a grade five school boy, after their home was allegedly hit by military bombardment in the borders of Maguindanao and North Cotabato before Wednesday dawn.

The slain senior citizen was identified as Misba Masla. Her husband, Ali, and her grandson Edwin, all residents of Sitio Butelin, Barangay Kabasalan, Pikit, North Cotabato were seriously injured and are now getting medical attention at the Cruzado Medical Clinic in Poblacion Pikit.

Major Homer Estolas, spokesperson of the Army 6th Army Division, said in a phone interview target of air and ground assaults was the group of Abu Toreife Terror Group of Dawlah Islamiyah Mindanao, a sub-group of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Abu Misry Mama, spokesperson of BIFF denied that the group of Toraife was in the area. He said the Army strikes hit civilian homes.

“How could they say in public that they are protecting civilians when in fact, very obvious, that they bombed the house of an old woman?” he stressed over a phone interview.

Estolas, for his part, said they will investigate the said matter.

An intelligence report said that groups of “Indong-Indong” (slang for Indonesians) and other foreign terrorists were gathering in Barangay Kabasalan to meet the group of Salahuddin Hassan and Abu Toreife.

“This is a division-wide proactive operation in Maguindanao and North Cotabato to halt the manufacturing of bomb making facilities of BIFF who are posing threat of bomb attacks,” said Brigadier General Alfredo Rosario of the 602nd Army Brigade in North Cotabato.

He confirmed that one unidentified person under Eds Grapil of BIFF was killed.

Rosario also said that Ali was a member of the BIFF, citing intelligence information.

Ongoing ground clearing operation still in the progress. (END)
