SEBU, South Cotabato - For still unknown reason, a 31-year-old man held hostage
his family here for several hours on Saturday, warding off anyone who wanted to
help and negotiate for an end to his acts.

The incident happened in Barangay Talisay, Lake
Sebu at about 5:30 p.m.

Inspector Joven Bagaygay, Lake Sebu town police chief, identified the hostage
taker as Marcos Candil Calipay, 31, resident of Barangay Talisay, who was armed
with a machete.

All ends well, so many thought, including Police
Officer 3 Joven Lequillo Lilla, 41, of Lake Sebu PNP and one of those who
responded to the hostage drama.

But Calipay suddenly and unexpectedly attacked
PO3 Lilla, hacking him in his head and right arm. sand//fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1923793_1234631166563298_5728002109828939150_n.jpg?oh=b4d42d3909686cde4f36f4aa28c7ff70andampoe=56FF8038andamp__gda__=1460007808_82229ed34815199cfe0dbb99950577d6 (PO3 Joven Lilla of Lake Sebu PNP) Although seriously injured, Lilla pulled his gun
and shot dead Calipay, according to Bagaygay.

Bagaygay said Calipay died on the spot. Lilla was rushed
by his colleagues to Landero Hospital in Surallah, South Cotabato.

Police investigators believed Calipay was under the
influence of prohibited drugs when he held hostage his wife and children in their
house. sand//fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/10612725_1234634059896342_8420781542015230626_n.jpg?oh=5f7fb7528e8efb2acf552d6fcabf3d35andampoe=56FB3CD2andamp__gda__=1460678757_b00afaae06c94607272177ea989a865b (The bolo used by Marcos Calipay in attacking PO3 Joven Lilla)
