Magnitude 5.6 quake hits Makilala, North Cotabato ; 10 aftershocks as of 10:40 p.m.

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Ten aftershocks followed the Magnitude 5.6 earthquake that hit mainland Mindanao at 8:36 tonight, the state volcanology office said at 10:18 p.m.

The latest tremor as of posting was recorded at Magnitude 4.8 coming at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday. Still tectonic in origin, the 10:12 pm quake was traced 7 kilometers from Makilala, North Cotabato.

The first tremor with a magnitude 5.6 struck Makilala, North Cotabato that sent people running in the streets during the tremor.

Adelaida Bulahao, a resident of Barangay Kisante, Makilala, North Cotabato said that everything appeared to be falling in her house.

“Wa na hugno na… hugno na gyud (It’s done, it’s done, it will collapse),” Bulahao said of the tremor was also felt in Koronadal, Davao, Gen. Santos and Cotabato cities.

The aftershocks came at 9:08, 9:10, 9:13, 9:31, 9:32, 9:37, 9:41, 9:49, 10:05 p.m. with an average of magnitude 2.2 tremor.

Phivolcs, in its bulletin, said no casualty was reported but damages to properties were reported in Makilala, North Cotabato.

The 8:36 p.m. main quake was traced 20 kilometers east of Makilala and tectonic in origin.
