KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 20) -- The Kidapawan City government has beefed up its security forces
following the bomb explosion in General Santos City and the daring hold-up
incident in Koronadal City in South Cotabato, officials said today.

In an
emergency meeting, City Mayor Joseph Evangelista ordered the local police to
intensify its security campaign by conducting random checkpoints, highway
inspection and secure the city’s entry and exit points.

Evangelista also
said the staff and personnel of the Public Safety Division are on standby for
immediate response during a crisis situation.

On Monday, a
day before the GenSan bombing, the K9 Unit of the Call 911 discovered a mortar
shell at the back of a mall here.

Also, during
the day, an unattended baggage, suspected to be a bomb, was found in front of a
Catholic church along the national highway here.

The mayor,
however, could not conclude if the discovery of a mortar shell, the latest
explosion in GenSan, and other atrocities in nearby towns were handiwork of the
Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a breakaway of the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF).

We cannot
lower our guards now. We’re closely
monitoring (and acting) on all intelligence reports coming in,” he said.

Earlier, the 10th Infantry Division, tagged the BIFF under a certain Basit Usman, a foreign trained bomber propagating bomb making lessons among Moro insurgents,as behind the Gen. Santos Cityblast that wounded seven people.

Maj. Gen.
Eduardo Ano, 10th IDcommander, based his conclusion on
the fragments of IED recovered after the explosion.
