IED found near shooting victims in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat

ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat  - While the town is still reeling from the Sept. 7 bombing in front of thw town public market the left eight people injured, another improvised explosive device (IED) was found Tuesday night.

Police and military authorities are digging deeper into the discovery of an IED and its connection to the shooting of two men in Barangay Kenram, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Lt. Colonel Modesto Carrera, newly designated police chief of Isulan, said two men on a motorbike were seen sitting on a parked motorbike beside the highway in Purok Don Juan, Barangay Kenram at 10 p.m. when a two men on separate motorbike arrived and fired at them.

Responding police found one of the two men on motorbike lying dead on the roadside while another managed to escape although injured.

Carrera said responding police found an improvised bomb near the crime scene.

“We are still determining if the IED was carried by the two shooting victims,” Carrera said. 

“We would like to know if there is connection between the shooting victims and the IED found nearby,” he added. He refused to name the two victims.

Army and police bomb experts safely deactivated the IED.

The wounded is now getting medical attention in an undisclosed hospital.

Carrera also appealed to the public to ignore threats of another bomb attack spread through the social media.

Eight persons were injured when an IED exploded in front of the town’s public market on Saturday in what police believed was carried by an extortion group.

Prior to last Saturday’s bombing, Mayor Marites Pallasigue received a phone call from the extortion group demanding from the local government P250,000 a month so the town will be spared from bombing.
