COTABATO CITY - Gunmen killed a police sergeant in Midsayap Saturday that preceded six similar incidents in the region the week before.

The Midsayap PNP said Police Staff Sgt. Edward Dimpaso in Midsayap town in North Cotabato was gunned down by suspected hired killers.

Dimpaso was a member of the Maguindanao provincial police under the Regional Police Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Lt. Col. Benito Rotia, chief of the Midsayap municipal police, said Dimpaso was about to ride his motorcycle parked near a bakery when two men wielding pistols attacked him from behind.

Responding barangay watchmen and personnel of the municipal police rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Rotia said probers have initially theorized that the murder of Dimpaso could be related to a “business conflict.” He did not elaborate, however.

“We need to give investigators enough time to uncover the real angle of that incident and identify who his killers were,” Rotia said.
