COTABATO CITY ---- The Food and Agriculture Office (FAO) of the United Nations and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) forged Monday an agreement to help each other boost the productivity of farmers in BARMM provinces.

The joint development deal was signed by FAO representative Jose Luis Fernandez and BARMM Environment Minister Abdulraof Macacua during a symbolic event on Monday morning at the office here of Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim.

The government of Japan will assist the efforts of FAO and the newly-established Bangsamoro regional government.

Under the agreement, FAO and BARMM shall cooperate in implementing programs meant to empower the agriculture sector in the Bangsamoro region.

Besides Japan, the government of New Zealand and the Korea International Cooperation Agency shall also help in pushing the programs of FAO and BARMM forward.

The Bangsamoro region covers the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, which are both in mainland Mindanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
