Ex-village councilman, lady trader slain in NoCot gun attacks

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato  – A former village councilman and a businessman were separate killed in daylight shooting in the towns of Matalam and Antipas in North Cotabato on Wednesday.

Lt. Colonel Lino Capellan, police regional spokesperson for the Soccsksargen region, identified the slain businesswoman as Marissa Bautista, 46 and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Matalam town.

Capellan, citing a report from North Cotabato police office, said Bautista was tending to her variety store when an unidentified suspect shot him without any provocation.

The man posed as one of the customers at 6 a.m. when he pulled a gun and fired at the unsuspecting lady trader.

Meanwhile, Nemesio Castor, 65, a resident of Barangay Malangag, Antipas, North Cotabato, was resting in front of his home at post 4 p.m. when a man on a motorbike arrived and opened fire.

Castor, a retired village “kagawad” (councilman), was rushed by relatives to Antipas Medical Specialist but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Capellan said the Matalam and Antipas municipal police offices have launched massive manhunt and intelligence gathering operation to identified and bring the suspects behind bars.
