The Army’s 6th ID hosted an Eid’l Fit’r outdoor worship rite in Camp Siongco.

COTABATO CITY --- The Eid’l Fit’r outdoor congregational prayer rites Wednesday in provinces of the Bangsamoro region were peaceful, highlighted with calls for religious tolerance by officiating clerics.

The Army’s 6th Infantry Division hosted an outdoor ceremony for more than a thousand worshipers in its parade ground in Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao facilitated by officers, among them Col. Markton Abo of the 38thInfantry Battalion, an ethnic Maguindanaon Muslim.

Brig. Gen. Marni Marcos of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has not received even a single report on any untoward incident in the BARMM provinces while thousands of Muslim men, women and children were out in open fields to perform obligatory prayer rituals.

Major Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of 6th ID, said he is thankful to local government units in the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato and in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, in Region 12 and BARMM, respectively, for cooperating with their Eid’l Fit’r security efforts.

The Eid’l Fit’r, one of two most important religious holidays in Islam, marks the culmination of the month-long Ramadhan fasting season, lasting for one lunar cycle, or from 28 to 29 days.

The other holiday is the Eid’l Adha, or feast of sacrifice, in honor of the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of subservience to God in an event that both the bible and the Qur’an says was interrupted by an angel who replaced the supposed sacrificial human with a ram.

Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the Ramadhan as a religious obligation, focus on good deeds, reparations for wrongdoings, and prayers during the period.

Hadji Ahod "Murad"c Ebrahim, chief minister of BARMM, said he is thankful to the Western Mindanao Command, where 6th ID belongs, and to the PRO-BARMM for jointly providing security to the major venues in the Bangsamoro region of Wednesday’s Eid’l Fit’r worship activities.

The BARMM covers the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Marawi and Lamitan that originally comprised the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Cotabato City, once under Region 12, and 63 barangays in North Cotabato are also part of BARMM’s newly-established core territory.
