NORTH COTABATO --- First-termer Gov. Nancy Catamco on Monday reorganized the provincial security council to boost peace initiatives for domestic culturally-pluralistic communities.

Catamco, a congresswoman in this province prior to her election as governor last May 13, convened on Monday the provincial peace and order council, or PPOC, to reprogram its direction on stabilizing security in all of the 17 towns in the province and in its capital, Kidapawan City.

Police and military officials took turns briefing Catamco on the security situation in the province, where there is presence of the New People’s Army and the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters operating in the fashion of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

The inter-agency PPOC is comprised of members from various line agencies, the police, the military and sectoral leaders in North Cotabato.

Central Mindanao’s top Army official, Major Gen. Diosdado Carreon of the 6thInfantry Division, attended Monday’s PPOC meeting, held at Catamco’s office in the provincial capitol in Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City.

Catamco promised during the campaign period to focus on domestic peace initiatives involving LGUs to complement the improving investment climate in the province if she gets to the helm of the provincial government.

She then said she will  tap support to her peace and security efforts  from traditional elders, the security sector and the Islamic and Christian religious communities in all four corners of North Cotabato, where there are a number of clan wars involving families in Moro-dominated areas.

Catamco said she will listen to ideas and recommendations by PPOC members on how to address security concerns besetting the province.

Ali Abdullah, the provincial director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, was also present in the PPOC meeting.
