COTABATO CITY  – Peacekeeping in this city got a boost with the turnover Saturday of 130 newly trained paramilitary troops who will help in maintaining law and order.

City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi welcomed the 130 Special Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary (SCAA) who were turned over by Major. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, 6th Infantry Division commander, to the supervision and control of Joint Task Force Kutawato (JTFK) Commander Colonel Joel Abregana and Mayor Guiani-Sayadi.

She said the paramilitary troops will be starting today to various villages in the city, especially along border barangays with Maguindanao to prevent extremists from entering the city.

Guiani-Sayadi said 63 more paramilitary troops are on their way to the 6th ID training camp and, once they completed the course, will be added to forces securing the city.

She urged the force multiplier to perform their duties as expected of them.

“You will be there not to protect any one or anybody but everybody, your loyalty should be to the people and not to any politician or anyone,” the mayor told the militiamen.

Cotabato City, host of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), is home to about 300,000 inhabitants and is secured by the Army Special Forces Battalion of about 500 foot soldiers, 300 police officers and para military troops.
