BARMM humanitarian team to strengthen services to remote areas

COTABATO CITY -  While decommissioning of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants aims to normalize the lives of former rebels, communities that were left behind from the ill-effect of decades of conflict is to be addressed too, an official of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said.

On Thursday, BARMM Ministry and officials led by the Interior Ministry and Mindanao Humanitarian Team (MHT) has brought their teams in Basilan province, the first to be conducted in the island provinces of the region.

Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo has met the team of Basilan Governor Jim Siliman where they discussed how the efforts of the present government and the local and international non-government organizations will work to penetrate the rural communities together with the provincial government.

“They planned to make it in Zamboanga but I insisted it’s better to go to the target province, the idea here is for us to see for ourselves the actual conditions of the people we work, so we can better respond to their needs,” said Sinarimbo.

Recently, BARMM launched the “Tabang” missions in Pidsandawan, Mamasapano, Maguindanao and Bakat, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, all in Maguindanao, where recently devastated by armed conflict between MILF and its splinter group, the IS-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Medical-dental services, free medicine, disaster preparedness response, food aid, relief mission and a lot of services by different departments were given to affected families.

Even the military has deployed its teams to conduct circumcision and free haircut to kids and their parents. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), an international non-government organization and part of Mindanao Humanitarian Team has extended “Buntis Kit” that contains hygiene and safety supplies to pregnant and mothers raising children in the activity area.

The Joint BARMM and MHT will attempt to visit and meet officials also of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. (FC)
