Barangay chairman, companion dead in Kabacan shooting incident

NORTH COTABATO --- Two were killed, one of them a barangay chairman, while two others were wounded in an attack in Kabacan town in this province Sunday by men armed with assault rifles.

The fatalities, Barumbong Bacana, chairman of Barangay Kayaga in Kabacan town, and Tatuan Kalantungan, both died from multiple bullet wounds.

Two other villagers were wounded in the incident, according to the Kabacan municipal police

Bacana and Kalantungan were together in the barangay office when the suspects riding motorcycles arrived and shot them with M16 rifles.

The suspects hurriedly escaped after automatic gun bursts triggered a commotion among villagers in houses nearby.

Personnel of the Kabacan municipal police and plainclothes intelligence agents of the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion are cooperating in trying to identify the culprits and their motive for the attack.
